9-Year-Old Loses Mates During Marathon, Asks Marine ‘Will You Run With Me?’

A photo capturing two marathon runners, a 9-year-old boy and a United States Marine, instantly went viral over the internet after it was posted, and for all the right reasons! The marine was competing in a 5K marathon when he noticed a child struggling while trying to make it across the finish line.

Rather than just passing him by, as many people probably did, especially since it was a competition, the marine stopped competing and slowed down to run with the little boy. Lance Corporal Myles Kerr was enjoying his leave while spending part of it running in a local 5K marathon in the town of Charlevoix in Michigan with a few of his fellow marines. That was until he ran across a boy named Brandon Fuchs.

Brandon had become separated from his own group and was really struggling to keep going. The boy then reached out to Kerr for help, and he was more than happy to oblige. Instead of trying to win a competition with his fellow Marines, Kerr decided instead to slow down and keep pace with the boy, while giving him much needed encouragement so they could both cross the finish line together.

The Reaction Kerr’s act of kindness did not go unnoticed. It was soon picked up by the Seal of Honor Facebook page as well as a few news outlets. The story was retweeted and shared across the internet. The response was heartwarming. Everyone believed that Kerr made the right decision that day. Comments concerning the marine’s actions on YouTube were overwhelmingly positive. Many mentioned how just looking at the picture had improved their day as well as their outlook on life, even their hope for humanity.

“You know every day I have to deal over the phone with people who seem to think that everyone should drop everything and attend to their needs, no matter how trivial they are and no matter what else might be going on in the world around them. Sometimes, it is very hard to remain civil to them. So when I come across something like this, where someone gave up their time and aim for a child… well, I just love it. It reminds me that there are really nice people out there. thank you to that Marine.” – redher

We all need a good reminder from time to time, especially if we don’t have the opportunity to see acts of kindness as much as we would like to in our daily lives. Perhaps this story can serve as a reminder that it doesn’t take much to lift someone else’s spirits or offer a bit of encouragement. It’s something that all of us can do. “I totally applaud what he did, but as for any man….he is certainly wrong about that one! it takes a certain kind of real man to put others before himself, especially in this context. this altruistic and heroic act would not been done by very many others. then, in true hero fashion, he downplays just how amazing of a man he must be.”

Thank you for making a lasting impression on one young boy’s life. We can all learn from his example. Please share this story with your friends and family.
